Very Rare Frosted and Clear Uranium Green Marina Float Bowl Art Deco Depression Era 1920/30s by August Walter & Sohne This is an ultra rare large heavy Uranium Green frosted art deco float bowl. She is called the Marina lady and she is holding an umbrella or parasol. Some call her a Parasol Lady or Umbrella Lady. She is absolutely gorgeous. She is sitting with an elegant dress with a big bow at the front of the dress and another bow on the umbrella or parasol handle. The figurine sits on the flower frog which fits in the float bowl. She was made in the Depression Era 1920’s and 1930’s near Dresden, Germany in-between the two World Wars. This float bowl is nearly 100 years old. This Marina float bowl is very rare and sought after. The Marina figurine stands 8 inches or 20cm high. The foot of the figurine is a square shape measuring 4.5 inches or 11.5cm in each direction. There is a smooth flat chip on top of the umbrella (see photo 6 showing the back of the Marina). There is a small smooth flat chip on one of her shoes which is very hard to notice. Otherwise the Marina figurine is in good condition. The round flower frog is 7 inches or 17.5cm in diameter at the top and the base is 4 inches or 10cm in diameter. On the base of the flower frog one of the teeth has been broken off on the back corner. When the float bowl is assembled you don’t see the missing tooth because it is at the back of the Marina. The pattern on the back of the bowl is frosted and it protrudes out of the bowl. The inside of the bowl is clear as you can see in the photos. The top rim of the bowl sticks out and has roses all around it. The rest of the bowl has a very rare and unusual pattern around it. There is a registered number in the inside of the bowl “Reg No 808160” (see photo 5) The bowl is 12 inches or 30cm in diameter and nearly 3.5 inches or 9cm high. The inside of the bowl has 8 small glass knobs that hold the Marina Flower Frog in place. The foot on bowl is 7 inches or 17.5cm in diameter. There are a few air bubbles in the glass and air bubbles are typical manufacturing features of this era glass. There is one air bubble on the bottom rim of the bowl near the roses. This is a very rare August Walther and Sohne float bowl from Dresden Germany. It is green uranium glass and it is extremely heavy, good quality and it glows like crazy under a black light. The float bowl is in good condition for its age. I haven’t seen one of these bowls for years, that’s how rare they are, it would be good for a serious collector who is looking for rare pieces of art deco glass. The last photo is out of the Margaret and Kevin Conway “A Century of Household Glassware in Australia 1880 to 1980: A visual reference and price guide”. It has UK in the book, but this float bowl was made in Germany. Have a look at all the photos to see the lovely colour and condition.
