For sale is a Sutil branded vintage chronograph, powered by the legendary Landeron 48. That family of movement has started production in 1937, so that dates the watch to anywhere between that and the late 1950s or early 1960s. Well sized at 35mm in a gold plated case, and a dial that has patinated into a bronze color. A good and not too expensive entry into the world of vintage Swiss chronographs. Comes with a brand new strap sized at 120/73mm. It should fit wrists of up to 19cm (7.5″) circumference. It has light marks scattered around, with a light scratch near the center and a bit more discoloration near the top edge. The hands show signs of corrosion, in what should have originally been blue in color. Acrylic crystal is clean. The case is in decent condition considering the age. Gold plating has worn off in places. Pushers have even more loss of plating, but that’s to be expected as they get used often. Crown must be a more recent replacement. Case back has light scratches and little dings scattered around. Movement works. Winding and time setting are relatively smooth. Chronograph functions all work. This kind of movement starts the chronograph with the upper pusher, but stops and resets it with the lower one. Timegrapher results show that it has quite a strong amplitude in the 270 range, but it’s gaining 6 minutes per day. Additionally there’s a lot of scattering on the timegrapher plot, and that means that a lot of noise is coming from the movement, as you can see in the 17th photo. A proper service is definitely needed and maybe some parts replaced before it can keep good time. Face up: +415 s/d, 270 amplitude, 3.4ms beat errorFace forward: +394 s/d, 216 amplitude, 1.1ms beat errorFace down: +403 s/d, 274 amplitude, 3.1ms beat error Movement Service The movement’s service history is unknown and I haven’t personally sent it for a service. Although it runs well, keep in mind you’re buying a vintage watch. If you care for it to function properly in the future, a service will be needed. Waterproof The watch is not waterproof. You should wear it with care and prevent exposure in very humid environments. Washing your hands while wearing the watch or exposure to light rain are fine as long as you’re careful and aware that it’s a vintage watch.
