Description Hofner Violin Bass ’63 – 60th Anniversary Edition #73 Limited edition 1963 violin bass. 60th anniversary model. A book that fans are coveting. This instrument is an anniversary model produced in a limited edition of 80 pieces worldwide to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the birth of the 1963 Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass. Inspired by an actual bass made between July and August 1963, this instrument has been recreated as faithfully as possible. Speaking of the ’63 Violin Bass, it goes without saying that it is the most famous violin bass of the year, owned by Paul McCartney and used as his main bass for a long time. This machine was planned and produced under the leadership of the Hofner company in 2023, which marks the 60th anniversary since 1963. You can feel the significance of this, and the finished product has a specification and appearance that pays close attention to every detail that touches the hearts of enthusiasts. Hollow structure body with sides and back made of flame maple with a beautiful heathered appearance, and spruce top. The finish has been carefully chosen, with a ’63-style dark sunburst. The neck features a 2-piece maple neck with a rose fingerboard and the familiar double pegs. In addition to the 762mm scale of yesteryear, this one is also manufactured with specifications unique to this limited model, including a 41mm nut width specification. The rear pickup is mounted closer to the bridge, and the pickguard is also mounted higher on this model. An offset mount design moves the jack position closer to the end pin than the center of the control panel, and a red fiber washer is used on the jack socket. It also has the features seen in WHP limited models that have been released so far. In addition, we are particular about the strings, and the factory setup is Pyramid’s chrome nickel wound flat strings “Vintage ’63 (+ black silk ends)”.
