This is the very first Millett Hybrid MiniMAX ever built! Used as the proof-of-concept for the later production custom-machined Lansing casework design, this utilizes the off-the-shelf, vinyl-covered Lansing MicroPak “C-style” enclosure, hand-drilled by Beezar Audio. After initial testing, this amp was stored in a cabinet in air-conditioned Beezar office space. It has remained there since 2008, unused. It is fully operational and is effectively brand-new, but old stock (NOS). The design goal was to minimize the space/footprint of the famous Millett Hybrid MAX to as small as possible, while still using through-hole components. In the early days of Beezar Audio, all Headphone Amplifier and DAC designs were designed as DIY projects or as Kits, not completely assembled amplifiers. Thus, through-hole parts were always a goal at the time (not so easy these days with SMD obsoleting most through-hole parts). You have to hold this amplifier in your hand to get a true feel of how compact and refined it is. The entire case is little more than 1-3/8″ (35mm) thick. While the later custom-machined Lansing cases were very impressive, this off-the-shelf Lansing C-style MicroPak is subdued and color-coordinated with the volume knob. The vinyl gives it a warm, almost leather-like texture that exudes a retro quality.
