BEDALE 1848 De La Poer BERESFORD & PEIRSE to MONSON Settlement Manuscript #BP1 Click images to enlarge Description Click the photographs to enlarge which are part of the visual description. Colours may differ due to any flash used. This is a really fabulous hand written official document.. it relates to Bedale in North Yorkshire and the De La Poer Beresford Peirse family… when Mr Beresford married Miss Monson ..it is a settlement of a rent charge of £800 and of a sum of £20,000 on the Marriage of the two named people… on the 1st March 1848. I sell a lot of indentures and this sort of document.. but this one is something else.. it has 7 sheets of hand writing – manuscript on vellum… and includes a hand coloured map – plan of the area covered by the document…of the Northern area around Bedale …which is coloured into 4 areas .. these are the TOWNSHIPS of Bedale …all are numbered too which go with the tables inside on the document to say who rents which area and tennants etc.. top left hand corner of EACH sheet is the embossed blue official seal .. these have thin silver sheets inset too with the seal impressions.. as well as a hand franked stamp YORK and a date with Victorian Crown in the centre and another SD mark below.. showing each document has been properly looked over and is true and correct. So the people named on the first document include in this order…. MARY ANN PEIRSE – HENRY WILLIAM DE LA POER BERESFORD – HENRIETTA ANNE THEODSIA MONSON – HENRIETTA & THOMAS MONSON RECTOR of BEDALE – SARAH WYVILL – THOMAS JOHN MONSON – ROBERT GURNEY BARCLAY – MARMADUKE WYVILL the YOUNGER – GEORGE JOHN WHYTE MELVILLE . It has 3 full pages of tables of occupiers to the land, field names, acreages, all sorts which has been well drawn on the coloured and numbered map. It is most interesting reading especially if you are into LOCAL history and familes etc. The top sheet.. this has the map.. at the very bottom it has 7 red WAX SEALS all can be seen easy .. with the 7 Signatures of the people it relates to. In the open position the sheets are all about the same being 29 inch x 24 inch .. when folded up the document is 10 x 8 and half inch.. As well as all that it has the wording on the back folded over part and signatures and witness signatures etc. This document can be veiwed at our Bedale Antique shop, at the railway station.. please message me to arrange an appointment. Also note cash on collection, a cleared cheque or a bacs – iban payment only. Please see close up pictures for more detail. The item(s) are shown next to an English 1 penny which is 20mm dia for scale.
