PLEASE REFER TO THE SHIPPING TAB IN THE LISTING Item Condition: We are offering for sale a Chiquita dinner plate in a dark green color. Chiquita is the pattern name for the child’s set produced by the Alley Agate Company. The plate is in Undamaged Condition without chips, cracks, or mold damage. Chiquita was crudely made and the plates may have bubbles color variations and uneven mold seams. We have duplicates this dinner plate. They all have the darker green Chiquita color (some of the plates come in a lighter green), but the swirling is slightly different in each plate, so while they match they are not exactly the same color. This is the way these plates were made. Please check the listing to see how many of these plates are still available. The Alley Agate Company (1929 – 1949) – The Alley Agate Company was created and owned by by Lawrence Alley. In 1929 it was established as the Lawrence Glass Novelty Company in Paden City, West Virginia and it stayed there until 1932. The company was moved three times after 1932 to three other West Virginia sites. It was in Sistersville from 1932 to 1934 , Pennsboro from 1934 to 1937, and in St. Marys from 1937 to 1949. In 1931 the name was changed to the Alley Agate Co. and in 1947 to Alley Glass Manufacturing.Alley Agate is well known for the production of glass marbles. Lawrence Alley’s machines could produce more marbles per minute than any other marble producing company. In addition to marbles Alley Agate produced pieces for children’s sets as well as a complete set of glass Children’s Dishes called Chiquita. The common sets were a jade green opaque color, and a transparent cobalt blue. Harder to find colors include purple, yellow, and robins egg blue. Occasionally fired on colors are found. Both the marbles and the children’s dish sets were sold and distributed by J. Pressman.In June, 1949, Berry Pink and Sellers H. Peltier bought the company. The name was changed to Marble King.
