Tested and working. Read seller notes and see photos. As for the styrofoam insert, the original we had was in pretty bad shape. The only thing we had was the half that holds all the accessories. The half that holds the console was torn off and in bad shape. So instead of spending beyond our means to have a reproduction one imported from the UK, I got innovated and repaired it. It is very solid and functional. It does the job well but it is noticeable that it is not a whole original foam insert. Not sure how important that is for people however if there is something you would rather us use, or if you have any advice on the matter, we are all ears. Please be advised. —————————————————— SEGA Genesis vs. Super NES The Great North American 16-Bit Console Wars: Stalemate or genesis of the demise of SErvice GAmes? The SG had this early. Maybe not so much in ’89 and ’90, as Sega was still getting its butt royally handed to it by the good ‘ol NES. The non-Super variant. In 1990 alone Sega was completely annihilated, humiliated, mostly not known to even make video games or consoles, with the majority of half, 79 percent, not knowing that a company named Sega even existed, or that the word Sega wasn’t even Japanese at all, by an overweight Italian-American plumber, and his brother, from Brooklyn, on only their 3rd paying(hopefully on this one) job, that still mostly consisted of dealing with pipes and plumbing, even though there was definitely a lot more running and jumping than they were ready for, and apparently Brooklyn does have a problem with reptiles or alligators. The whole experience was very strange but the lady that paid them was very nice, paid well, and was super hot. Though the strangeness didn’t end there when they saw mushrooms everywhere and apparently they were in THE Mushroom Kingdom. The Super Mario Bros. 3 American hype train, spectacle, extravaganza, all nighter, and fascist propaganda, was definitely real in 1990. Super NES was released in 1991. But for me, I didn’t remember it getting released at all. One minute there was NOT a Super NES available for purchase on store shelves. The next minute there was a Super NES available for purchase on store shelves. And no one I knew had one. Or had ever saw a real one. What? Mario can get an entire face of the globe to perform a gigantic 3 for him the year prior? And the Super NES gets what? Nothing? What the hell happened in 1991? I will tell you. First, Sonic the Hedgehog was released. Second, Sega became that light wine that you are having on a relaxing, cozy, not too overindulgent, early night…you know, “I’ll just have a sega, please.”…”Oh, good choice hun!”… To the company that was all in your face, telling you that you were gaming wrong, roughed you up a little for actually agreeing with them, then sold you a cool looking gaming console, cheap, took it back, and your money, threw you a couple Barbie dolls, and told you to go learn to game with those before you were ready for the SG. Turn on the TV and every other commercial was talking about “blast processing” with a blue streak in the background. Next commercial was all about what “Genesis does, and Nintendon’t” Then when all seemed ok, not even knowing if the Super NES actually existed, you were swiftly reminded that, “There is no Nintendo CD!” All in your face. All the time. Yelling at you. Really fast. All the time. This was Sega’s ruthless early 90s marketing campaign. On meth! (Please be advised, the following paragraph must be read by John Facenda. Or at the very least Jeff Kaye. If they cannot be reached in their golden palaces of the afterlife, for the love of God, please read the paragraph in a tone that is reminiscent of their tone. Thank you.) The ass kicking Sega took until 1990 and throughout made them tough. Real tough. And little beknownst to Nintendo, this made Sega extra prepared for the upcoming onslaught that was, the Super NES, in ’91. And with prices as low as 20 a G on the street, Sega was well equipped, full of charisma. With the surplus of energy, and with the will and desire to take Nintendo where Nintendo hadn’t been in a long, long time. That cold, blistering late Sunday in January, Nintendo only knew that shade of blue it felt, was caused by that Sega blue staring back at them. And finally the eyes of the Sega faithful only knew that feeling of coming out of the shadows. And into the limelight, it so rightfully craved. The SG also had a very large, and impressive library of games. But let’s face it, all the best 16-bit games were on the Super NES. Super Metroid, Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, A Link to the Past, Mario World and Yoshi’s Island. Come on!! Mario Paint!!! To name a few, or eight. The Sega Genesis and the Sega CD don’t quite have the killer apps that I will say are better than some of the Super NES’ best. Off the top, Genesis’ top five, my personal five, no order: Sonic 2, 3 and Knuckles(considering as one lot), Shining Force, NHL 94(95 and 96), Gunstar Hereos, and Shinobi III. Well, that was hard. Didn’t even mention the Phantasy Star series, Golden Axe games, Road Rash games, Strike series, Sega’s own sports games, like the WSB series. The Super NES was known for being the place for top notch RPGs. And Sega Genesis was the place for sports they say. But Genesis had some excellent, and very unique RPGs. And Super NES had some great sports games as well. Maybe a tad better feeling on the Genesis but I had NHL 93(or NHLPA 93) on Super NES and it was fantastic. And every other one after that on the Genesis, lol. Ken Griffey Baseball anyone? And fighting games and beat em ups just felt at home on the Genesis. Except for Killer Instinct. Maybe THE best fighting of the 16-Bit era. But Streets of Rage anyone? Super NES had the Final Fight series. Final Fight CD on Sega CD trumps all of those. THE best beat em up of the 16-bit console era. Here it is…… Truth is, honestly, when I am looking to power up Retro Arch, and I want some 16-bit nostalgia, I am not firing up an Super NES emulator. I am going straight for Sega. More specifically, the Sega CD that is. I have all the bios’ I need to fire up any region game. Still can never decide if I want to play North American Sonic CD or PAL Sonic CD. And I can’t decide which soundtrack is better. NA by a hair. Enough with the SEGA Genesis? Fire up the Super NES? No, not yet. TurboGrafX-16 here I come…. bonk, BONK!!!!! Never owned a Turbo 16 but the local Radio Shack had a Sega Genesis, TG-16, and an NES(sometimes an SNES), hooked up free to play any game. I was constantly there playing Turbo 16 wondering why it isn’t more popular. It was the beez knees!!! It is the same for the 32/64 bit era. I never fire up a Playstation or N64 emulator. It is always the Sega Saturn. Dreamcast and Gamecube take precedence over the Xbox and PS2 in the next era. Although, we owned so many games on Xbox and PS2 at the time. Half got pawned regrettably. Some got stolen. Rest are being restored and listed. I will say this… Because of the competitiveness of the 16-Bit console wars, the SEGA Genesis and the Super NES are the two greatest videogame consoles complete in box of all time!!!! Get yours authentic complete in box today!! (Unfortunately the Sega Genesis and Sega CD we had bundled sold in early August.
