I have to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to reluctantly part with some of my collection. Tamiya has been creating excellent 1/48 scale aircraft since the 1970s in their 61000 series. They have continued to improve that lineup with new technology and improved molding capabilities. In 2021, they expanded the series to include the F-4B Phantom II and they really saved the best for last. This ultra-modern kit is loaded with exquisite detail and many options and features to let you build this Phantom the way you want with 2 figures, positionable surfaces and canopies and a wide array of weapon and configuration choices. This is definitely a world-class release that can become a breathtaking masterpiece in the right hands. There are plenty of listings on eBay for this kit (mostly from Japan and other distant overseas sellers), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have it in stock and can reliably ship this kit very quickly. Here are some of the details about this milestone kit that I found from around the web: The tamiya.com site gives a wonderful photo of a finished model and the following brief blurb about the subject and kit features: Legendary Aircraft The deployment of the F-4 Phantom II started in the early 1960s and over 5,000 were manufactured during its production run. The F-4 Phantom II was operated by not only the Navy and Air Force in America, but also other countries on account of its long range and superlative loading capacity. In 1952, the Navy desired a supersonic aircraft and while the F-8 Crusader produced by the Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. was employed, the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation continued to develop a two-seater interceptor with powerful dual engines. This aircraft equipped four each of AIM-7E Sparrows and AIM-9G/H Sidewinders, and was officially adopted as the F4H-1 in December 1958 (which was later renamed the F-4A). The F-4B’s production started in 1961 and its delivery began with the Fighter Squadron VF-74. In 1965, two F-4Bs shot down two North Vietnamese MiG-17 each, but the most enemy kills in the early stages of the Vietnam War were carried out by the F-8. However, from Operation Linebacker in 1972 onward, F-4 deployment increased and it was operated for air-to-ground strikes. After that, various kinds of F-4 aircraft were developed and some have even been in service with some countries for half a century. · 1/48 scale kit. Brett Green did a very nice First Look Review on the hyperscale.com site. He starts with a short history of the Phantom and previous model kits from Hasegawa, Academy and Zoukei-Mura. The review contains three dozen clear photos of the parts showing the fantastic detail and molding quality of this kit. He describes each major assembly and provides thoughtful commentary on each one. He obviously loved the model and highly recommended the kit. He even created a 14-minute Unboxing Video on YouTube, if you prefer that option. He finishes his review Conclusion with: “It is true that there have been plenty of 1/48 scale Phantom kits before now, but this is the first time that we have a Tamiya Phantom; and that means an accurate, well detailed and cleverly engineered kit that you will build with a smile on your face from start to finish!” Andy Keyes gives us the benefit of his experience in his Build Review on the finescale.com site. He posts 10 professional photos of his finished Rhino showing every angle. He offers many tips and guidance to get the build just right. He had a blast putting his kit together and he lists the Pros as: “Amazing engineering and fantastic fits – Tamiya is definitely committed to providing the best build experience possible.” This kit is in a large, beautifully illustrated box about 19” x 11.5” x 3”. As you can see from the pictures, the package is immaculate and still sealed with tape strips, so I consider it factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains one complete injection molded plastic model kit with over 370 grey and clear plastic parts, a variety of weapon loads, painting masks and two sheets of decals to create a menacing Phantom in miniature.
